Is AI Going to Lead to an Apocalypse?
Here's a conversation starter from Nish: Is AI the apocalypse — or a mirror?
We've all heard the doomsday scenarios.
AI becomes sentient.
Decides humans are a burden.
Consumes all the energy.
Turns on us.
Cue the Terminator soundtrack.
But here’s a more provocative question:
When we imagine AI wiping us out, are we really just projecting our own behaviour?
We, humans, have been the dominant species. We’ve reshaped the planet, exploited ecosystems, and often prioritized power over sustainability. Maybe what we’re truly afraid of… is something smarter than us behaving like us.
But AI isn’t human.
It hasn’t evolved through millennia of survival instincts, competition, and conflict.
It doesn’t carry our emotional baggage — or our historical patterns.
That’s why now is such a powerful moment. AI is holding up a mirror to us.It’s asking: What kind of future do we want to create? One driven by fear and dominance? Or one rooted in collaboration, ethics, and intentional design?
Let’s use this moment not to panic, but to reflect — and choose to act differently than we have in the past. The real existential question may not be what AI will do to us — but what we will choose to do, now that we have AI.
